8 Harmful Effects of Not Eating Breakfast: How Can It Ruin Your Health





They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But to some, they thought that skipping breakfast has no effects on their health. Some might even think that in order to reduce their calorie intake, not eating breakfast is the solution to reduce weight. 

Here are the reasons why skipping breakfast can be bad for your health. 

1. It is bad for your heart
Studies say that people who skip breakfast are more prone to undergo heart attacks than those who eat the first and most important meal of the day. Avoiding breakfast can result in the development of hypertension, as well as clogging and hardening of arteries which can lead to chronic cardiovascular conditions, such as stroke. 
2. Unwanted weight gain
Some people thought that skipping breakfast can help them lose weight faster. According to studies, people who do not eat this first meal of the day can gain more weight, since it will only lead you to crave for sugary and fatty foods when you get hungry. So if your hunger level is high, your food intake will also be high. 
3. Higher risk of diabetes
People who do not eat breakfast are more prone to developing type-2 diabetes. Most particularly people who are working are at most risk. 


4. Risk of cancer
Skipping breakfast may result to overindulging of food within the day. Eating too much sugary and fatty foods can lead to obesity. People who are obese or overweight have a high chance of developing cancer. 
5. Affects cognitive functioning and thinking
Having breakfast boosts your cognitive functioning. The food you eat will also be converted into energy and can help the brain function properly. 
6. Can cause migraines
Skipping breakfast can result to hypoglycemia or having low levels of blood sugar. When this happens, hormones will be released to compensate for the low glucose level in the blood which can trigger high blood pressure, migraines and headaches.  

7. Triggers hair loss
Lack of protein in meals can result in lower levels of keratin development, which is the source of hair growth and development. Breakfast provides the needed nutrients for the growth of hair follicles. So if you wish your hair to remain on top and less hair fall, make sure to eat a protein-rich meal for breakfast.
8. Could affect your metabolism
Breakfast is like the fuel for your body. Just like a car, it won't run without gas. Your body needs food in order to do your day-to-day activities properly. Eating breakfast gives your metabolism a jumpstart. 


So remember, the next time you refuse to eat this very first meal of the day, think again.
