Hair loss, also known as alopecia or baldness affects not only men but also women. This refers to a loss of hair from your head or body. Loosing hair has multiple causes, such as diet, mineral deficiency, severe stress, medications, illness, and genetics.
Most people normally shed 50 to 100 strands of hair per day. These lost hair does not cause noticeable thinning of scalp hair since they are replaced by new ones at the same time. Hair loss and baldness happens when the cycle of hair growth is disrupted and the hair follicle is destroyed.Below are factors that can contribute to hair loss or baldness:
1. Family History or Genetics
There is a greater chance that if one of your family members experience baldness without any other factors causing it- it can also happen to you. There are no guarantees that you can prevent hair loss that is hereditary or genetically programmed. These factors are beyond your control, however, do the best you can to keep your hair staying on top by keeping your scalp healthy or just accept the fact.
2. Hormonal Changes
Experiencing hormonal changes and imbalances can cause temporary hair loss. In women, this occurs due to pregnancy, childbirth, hormonal shifts from birth control pills or menopause. Thyroid problems may also cause hair loss.
Conditions such as thyroid disorders, syphilis, iron deficiency, lupus, or severe infections can trigger hair loss. When the body experience stress from sickness or surgery, it temporarily ceases its tasks such as hair production.
Temporary or permanent hair loss can be caused by several medications, since they alter the body's normal hormone balance. Treatments such as chemotherapy, targets all rapidly growing cells in the body which includes c*nc3rous cells and even the healthy ones. The production of hair follicles are also affected which is why it is a well known reason for hair loss in c*nc3r patients.
5. Nutritional Deficiency
Eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia nervosa greatly affects hair loss because of the insufficient or poor intake of proteins, vitamins, and minerals necessary for the production of hair.
As you age, your hair looses some of its elasticity causing it to become brittle. The follicles, responsible for hair growth is also lessened. In women, hair loss starts on the top of the head or the temples, though they don't go completely bald. In men, they tend to start loosing hair on their temples going through the top and are more likely to go completely bald.
Hair loss or baldness is sometimes uncontrollable, but it is best to keep your scalp and hair healthy at all times to lessen your risk of developing such condition.
